Symptoms such as numbness, tingling, burning feet, electrical pain, abnormal cold sensations, or weakness can arise from peripheral neuropathy, a compressed peripheral nerve, radiculopathy from an irritated nerve root, or another medical or neurological problem. A focused evaluation helps determine which pattern best fits the symptoms.
Evaluation reviews the distribution and timing of symptoms, medical history, medications, alcohol or toxin exposure, family history, and conditions such as diabetes, thyroid disease, vitamin deficiency, kidney disease, or autoimmune illness. The examination looks at sensation, strength, reflexes, balance, and whether symptoms follow a peripheral nerve or nerve-root pattern.
Telehealth may help with history, record review, and selected follow-up once Florida care begins. Some patients will need laboratory testing, imaging, an in-person neurological examination, or local EMG and nerve conduction testing. Not every person needs every test, and results must be interpreted with the clinical history.
