Headache Concerns We Plan to Evaluate
Once Florida telehealth becomes available, planned consultations will focus on recurring headache patterns rather than emergency treatment. Concerns may include episodic or chronic migraine, migraine with aura, frequent headaches, cluster headaches, and other appropriate primary headache disorders.
- Headaches that recur or interfere with work, sleep, school, or family life
- Migraine with nausea, light or sound sensitivity, or worsening with activity
- Visual, sensory, or language symptoms that may represent migraine aura
- Headache on 15 or more days each month or frequent use of acute medication
- Severe one-sided attacks with eye tearing, nasal symptoms, or restlessness
How Neurologists Evaluate Recurring Headaches
A headache evaluation reviews when attacks began, how often they occur, their duration and associated symptoms, possible triggers, prior treatments, medication use, and relevant medical history. A neurological examination helps determine whether imaging or another evaluation is needed. Treatment plans are individualized and may address acute relief, prevention, medication overuse, sleep, hydration, meals, and other patient-specific factors.
Some headaches need emergency evaluation
A sudden severe headache, a headache reaching maximum intensity within seconds or minutes, or headache with new weakness, numbness, confusion, difficulty speaking, loss of vision, fever with a stiff neck, or loss of consciousness requires urgent or emergency evaluation rather than telehealth. Call 911 for possible stroke symptoms.
